Undergraduate Student Academic Standards
Students taking summer classes should be aware that ANY course, or any combination of courses, constitutes a full semester's work in terms of academic standards. The student at highest risk is one who, at the beginning of summer classes, is:
- "continued on probation" (as a result of spring semester grades); or
- "readmitted on probation"; or
- "continued on probation" (as the result of successful dismissal appeal).
Because all summer classes (whether just one course or many) constitute a full semester's work, a student's probation/dismissal status WILL be assessed either at the end of the First Five-week Session (for students enrolled in Pre-Session, 8-Week Session and/or First 5-Week Session, but not in the Second 5-Week Session) or at the end of the Second 5-Week Session (for students enrolled in that session). Under certain circumstances, taking a single course could appropriately cause a student to be academically dismissed from the University, particularly if the student receives a grade below C.
Any student who is unsure of the effect of summer work on their probation/dismissal status should consult with an academic adviser before taking any summer course or combination of summer courses.
Residency
Undergraduate students who wish to apply for residency should see details at the Office of Admissions. Graduate students who wish to apply for residency should see details at Graduate Admissions.
Class Attendance and Meeting Course Prerequisites
Academic departments reserve the right to cancel a course reservation for a student who does not attend the first class meeting for a summer session, or does not meet the prerequisites for the course. The space may be reassigned to another student applying for admission to the course. If dropped from the course by the department, a student is responsible for making sure the course is dropped from his/her registration.
Registration Tampering
A student who tampers or attempts to tamper with the registration records of another student, including but not limited to dropping and adding classes, will be subject to disciplinary action as defined in the Student Code of Conduct.
Public/Director Information
In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln may disclose public/directory information from the educational records of a student who is in attendance at UNL. However, students have the right to refuse to permit the University to disclose directory information. To be excluded from having all public/directory information excluded as public information, a student must notify Registration and Records (107 Canfield Administration Building; 472-3649) no later than 4 p.m. on the last day to add classes in each summer session.
