Credit Hour Limits and Graduate Assistantships

Academic departments make assistantship appointments. Because of departmental responsibilities, summer assistants are limited to enroll for only two to eight credit hours of academic course work depending on the appointment and the summer session. To hold a graduate assistantship, a student must be admitted to a department or area with a specific graduate degree objective and must be enrolled during the entire tenure of the assistantship. Students should contact the chairperson of their major department early in the year to express interest and determine availability.
